This policy describes how the Animal Bonds service should and should not be used. It applies to all users: pupils, parents, teachers, and other authorised staff. By using the Service, you agree to follow this policy. Schools may adopt this as part of their existing acceptable use framework.
1. For everyone
You may:
- Use the Service for its intended educational purpose.
- Help others use the Service (e.g. a parent helping a child).
- Provide feedback to us at any time.
You may not:
- Use the Service to cause harm to other users.
- Attempt to access another user’s account.
- Attempt to circumvent technical access controls or security measures.
- Use automated tools to access the Service (other than standard accessibility tools).
- Reverse-engineer the Service or extract its source code.
- Resell or redistribute the Service.
- Use the Service to develop a competing product.
2. For pupils
You can:
- Play the game, learn, and have fun.
- Race against your own previous best.
- Race against your classmates.
- Earn coins and unlock new biomes.
Please do not:
- Share your login with anyone else.
- Try to find your way around any safety features.
Your name in the game is an animal name (like “OtterRiver” or “FoxMeadow”) that the game gives you when you first sign in. This is the name you and other pupils see when you play. You cannot change it yourself, but if you do not like it, ask a teacher and the school admin can change it for you.
If something on the Service makes you feel uncomfortable, tell a parent or teacher straight away.
3. For teachers
You should:
- Keep your account credentials confidential.
- Use the Service in line with your school’s acceptable use and safeguarding policies.
- Report any safeguarding concerns to your DSL and to us at hello@animalbonds.co.uk.
- Use pupil data only for legitimate educational purposes.
You should not:
- Share login credentials with other staff or pupils.
- Use the Service to record information about pupils that goes beyond what the Service is designed to capture.
- Export pupil data for purposes unrelated to your role.
4. For parents and guardians
You should:
- Supervise your child’s use of the Service appropriately for their age.
- Keep your login credentials confidential. Your access is via login credentials issued by the school administrator, not via personal email.
- Be aware that on the parent dashboard you will see both your child’s real name (as entered by the school admin) and their auto-generated display name (e.g. “OtterRiver”). Other pupils never see your child’s real name: only the display name.
- If your child’s display name is unsuitable, embarrassing, or causing problems, contact the school administrator, who can change it.
- Contact us with other concerns at hello@animalbonds.co.uk.
5. For school administrators
You should:
- Keep admin credentials confidential.
- Enter pupil real names following the recommended convention: first name plus surname initial (e.g. “Alex S.”). Do not enter pupils’ full surnames.
- Issue and manage adult logins (parents, teachers) on a need-to-have basis.
- Promptly disable accounts when staff leave or when pupils transfer.
- Change a pupil’s auto-generated display name promptly if it turns out to be unsuitable, embarrassing, or a source of teasing. Display names remain animal-noun combinations; they cannot be changed to real names.
- Use the export and deletion tools when a pupil leaves the school.
You should not:
- Enter pupils’ full surnames or other identifying information.
- Share pupil real names outside the school’s own legitimate processes.
6. Reporting misuse
If you believe someone is misusing the Service, contact us at hello@animalbonds.co.uk.
7. Consequences of breach
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach this policy. Where misuse may constitute a criminal offence, we may report to the relevant authorities.
8. Updates
This policy may be updated. The “Last updated” date at the top tells you when. Material changes will be communicated to school administrators and posted in the parent and teacher dashboards.
